What if the Philadelphia Phillies followed the current retro rebrand trend in American professional sports? Successful nostalgia rebrands go further than throwback logos and colors — they combine elements from the past into something new.
The result is chunky, overlapping, and near abstraction. An organization of this caliber — the oldest single-name club in the game — and with this level of history and humility — claiming the worst all-time record in Major League Baseball — doesn’t need to look mean. It needs to look classic.
Lofty goals — and likely gone unachieved. However, combining the best elements from two World-Series-winning eras and bathing it all in a middle-ground crimson is my idea of a love letter to a brand that needs no replacement.
